Riding the Silver Trail
Sarah on "Apache", Bob on "Lucky" and Rita on "Styx" riding the Silver/Orange Trail at the LBJ National Grasslands on Sunday, February 22, 2009. I was riding "Ranger". It's called the "Silver" Trail on the map, but it's marked with orange paint, I guess because the silver color was not very visible. We rode a 12-mile loop. It was our first time on this part of the Trail. We found one cache, and it was in the same Pine Forest where we were parked. There were three turkeys in these pines, too; a tom and two hens. They were tame, it seems, because they kept trying to come up to us, even though we chased them away many times. They were making our horses FREAK, and Lucky broke his lead rope. We finally managed to get our horses saddled and we rode off, but the turkeys followed us a little ways at first! Then they gave up. I was worried the whole ride that we would see more, scary (to my horse) wildlife, and that I'd get dumped, but the rest of the day was relatively calm. For sure it was a much warmer day than the day before! All-in-all, three glorious days of riding!!
